Spring Fever Chase 10k

Sooo....the web has my official results as 1:09:14. The clock read 1:08:35 when I ran across the finish line. And Katrina thinks we ran the race in around 1:07ish. There were sooo many people there it took us a minute or so of walking to get to the start line and begin running. WHATEVER my results may be...I am SOOO proud of myself. My only goal was to run the entire way. Before today the fartherest I had ran was 4ish miles so I had no idea on what I was gonna be able to do today. It was sooooo much fun though. It was a killer course. Several hills in there which really hurt!!! AND we had to finish UP a hill!!! Who does that to ya??? Anywho, it was TONS of fun. I just love my running buddies. They are the greatest girls in the world!!!!! Oh, we have started a new siganture look with the pigtails. I'm sure it is to be the next coolest trend!!!!!

Let's catch up.... 3.01 miles

So...it's been a busy and crazy week. The only thing I can figure is the time change messed me up much more than I expected. Let's see....the last time I checked in here I was writing about the McGuire's run. Well, I have only ran once since then. I ran...Monday night I think. It was 3.01 miles. We had Tanyr come and join us and had a great time!!! I was feeling a little on the crazy side for some reason. We didn't run the whole way...more of a walk/run program. I hope Tanyr comes back and runs with us some more!!!! Baseball prevented me from running last night, but we won so it was well worth it!!! GO BRAVES!!!! Tomorrow is a BIG day for me. I am running (or maybe walking) in the Spring Fever Chase 10 in Fairhope. The most I have ran to date has been about 4.5 miles so I am a little nervous. I'm not gonna stress out too much tomorrow though. My real goal is to get ready for the Azalea Trail Run in Mobile NEXT weekend. I have ALWAYS wanted to run that race...ever since I moved to Mobile. Hopefully I'll get to do that next weekend!!!!! YAY!!!!

On another note: The girls and I (Laura and Katrina) have an exciting new project going on. We got the blessing from Bro. Paul yesterday to start a new outreach program through the church. The Ladies Couch to 5k (ok, so we are still working on coming up with a catchy title) will hold their first meeting Sunday April 11th at 2:00pm. This program will get you off that couch and running a 5k in 9weeks!!! We are soooo excited to be helping ladies in the church and community live a healthy lifestyle and hopefully develop a love of running!!!! Anywho...more news to follow so stay tuned!!!!

Thanks for reading!!

Sad and fun times...

Well, this week was a tough one and this weekend has been a weird one. Chris' grandmother passed away yesterday and so there is a lot of sadness. All the family lives in Jasper which is where she will be buried. After much discussion, it was decided that because Chris is driving up today and coming back tomorrow, that the 5+hour car ride each day would be a little much for the boys. So me and the boys stayed behind and Chris went home for the funeral. So I have a sadness in my heart....not for his Granny. She has gone home to be with the Lord, but with his mom and family. It is only human nature to miss our loved ones when they move on.

The boys and I had plans to go over and spend the night with my brother, Charlie, and his girls. My sister in law, Patti, and my niece baby sat the boys for me as Charlie and I went over to Pensacola to run the 31st Annual Mcguire's St. Patrick's Day Run (a prediction run). It was CRAAAAAAZYYYYY. Over 10,000 runners!!!! I had a hoot though!!! I predicted I would finish in 33:18. I finished in 32:17...so not to shabby!!! It was a good, flat and easy, beautiful run. It felt like the wind was blowing 40mph, but other than that it was perfect race weather!!!! Here are a few pics...

It is AMAZING how motivated you can get when you have Marines running up on your heels chanting. I took this video as they passed me. I tried keeping up, but couldn't. I was dissapointed they weren't in some sort of uniform. THAT would have been COOL!!!

Thursday= 3.21 miles

We tried out a new subdivision tonight (Timbercreek). It has more hills than the one we normally run. I REALLY need to run some hills before the relay. I think it went pretty well. I struggled a little but pushed through it. Yay for me and Laura!!!!!

I am running the 31st Annual Mcguire's St. Patrick's Day Run-A 5K prediction run over in Pensacola with my brother Saturday morning.

Monday=4.05 miles

Yay!!! I did it!! That was a tough run....not physically, but mentally. My mind just wasn't there for some reason. I was a little stiff. This was my third straight day to run and I think my body was trying to tell me to get some rest. We all stuck with it though and ended up running the 4 miles we set out to do. 4.05 miles in 43:50. I guess I'll take it. Best part about it.....my fancy smancy watch is telling me I burned 433 calories during that run. I was counting on that run today when I was at Olive Garden and had 2 breadsticks, 2 bowls of salad, and a large helping of spaghetti!!!! Ok, I'm taking the next two nights off. Hope to run on Thursday.

Sunday night run = 3.03 miles

OK, I can't leave off the .03. Every little bit counts. Had a WONDERFUL run tonight with friends. I so needed it too. I was ready to give up running after how horrible I felt about mile 2 1/2 during the 5k I ran yesterday. I needed a run to build the confidence back up and tonight I got that. I felt like I could keep running forever!!!! So, I'm back on track. I guess I'll keep up with this whole running thing. Ok, short post. I'm ready to shower and go to bed. Till next time......

I survived!!!

I survived!!! Well, that is about the only thing I can say to sum up my 5k this morning. The SEEDS 5k started at 8am. I was NERVOUS!!!! It was a great morning. Got up in time. Tried to eat and drink some water to prepare. Laura and Grady picked me up and we were at the race in plenty of time. It was FREEZING!!!! Anywho.....I felt good before the race. The race got started and off we went. I was stiff. I don't like running in the morning. I'm just so stiff or something. The first mile or so I felt like my muscles were just getting loosened up. And then about that time came incline #1 (I won't call it a hill becuase I'm sure some of you running folks would laugh at this thing). That wasn't too terrible. We pushed up it. I was getting a little winded and then came incline #2....and it HURT!!! Funny thing.....I survived both mini-hills.....but we rounded the corner and I could see the finish line about 1/4 of a mile away....and I died!!!! It's all mental I think. I saw the finish line and instead of getting pumped like I thought I would....I just DIED!!!! If it hadn't been for Laura pulling me along I would have walked right then and there. I was struggling. BUT...we pushed through it and finished 3.1 miles in 32.17. Some of you out there probably think that is pretty slow....BUT.....it's the fastest 5k I've ran so far and the ONLY 5k I've ran the entire time (with no walking breaks). I'm just now recovering (it's 5:00 in the afternoon). It drained me. Well....maybe not JUST the 5k. Shortly after I finished the 5k the whole family ran in the 1mile fun run. Both boys did GREAT!!!! They are gonna be natural runners. Then we had just enough time to come home, change clothes, and make it up to the ballfield just in time for pictures and exhibition game. WOW...worldwind of a morning. Me and both boys crashed for about a 2 hour nap after we got home. We were EXHAUSTED. Chris has got a boston butt on the grill and it's gonna be a GOOD EVENING at home relaxing with the family!!!!!

Run for the Reason

What is THIS!?!?!?!?!

What in the world am I doing with a blister??? I got in the shower this morning and OUCH!!!! The back of my heel hurt!!! I've had blisters from wearing high heels or sandals before....but NEVER from running!!! And we ran a SLOW, easy two miles. I had my good, expensive, fancy running socks on and everything!!! I know you really all care about a blister on my foot but it IS part of this road that I am on. The road to being a runner!!! Although I really hope it's the last blister I ever have...I'm pretty sure that it won't be.

2.03 miles

This is me, Katrina, and Laura....my running buddies. We've been running at night and this is us standing under the front porch light at Katrina's house. I CANNOT wait to run in some daylight and heat!!!! We wanted to take it easy tonight since we have the 5k Saturday morning so we ran a slow 2 miles (NEVER thought I would see the day that I would say 2 miles was an easy run). There was a couple of tense dog moments....but no problems to report. 5K HERE I COME!!!!

Wednesday = 2.94

I tried something new tonight.....interval training. I planned on running 2 minutes at a faster than normal pace...then recover for 30 seconds, and just keep doing that. Let me just tell ya.......it was MISERABLE. I guess I had just gotten comfortable with running an easy 3 miles. This pushed me. I was running harder than normal for those 2 minutes. 2 minutes doesn't sound like very long...but go out and run as hard as you can and see how long you can last. Anywho....think we completed 11 sets of that (well, ok...so maybe I walked one of those 2 minutes that I was suppose to be running). Our total numbers were 2.94 miles in exactly 30:00 minutes. Which by the way I am LOVING my Garmin 305!!!!

Run for the Reason

2008 SEEDS Fun Run

2009 SEEDS

SEEDS 5k

The picture above is from the 2009 SEEDS one mile fun run.  We all ran on that event last year.
There is also a 5k race.  I wanted to do that too, but hadn't been running any last year so I knew I wouldn't be able to complete it.  Well this year is a different story.  I registered for the 5k and signed us all up for the 1 mile fun run.  The race is structured so that you can run the 5k and then the fun run.  I'm excited!!  This will be the first race I ran in over 2 years.  I'm excited about getting to run with the kids too!  I want them to think that everyday exercise is just a normal part of life.  I'll let y'all know how we all do.....

All the money raised from this race benefits the Daphne area schools...
